Creativity: The New Competitive Advantage for Businesses Today

As an imagineer and visual designer I believe that by using creative imagination you can come-up with innovative, exciting and unexpected solutions. According to Harvard Business Review, data shows that creativity—or the ability to effectively solve challenges in new, meaningful and collaborative ways—is essential to compete in today's modern and complex markets. 

Audiences want more than logic The number one reason why sometimes even brilliant ideas fail is that they don’t start at behavior. We need to make the switch from designers creating for people to designers creating with people. The emerge of social networking sites has shown that people are driven to connect, share and publish. The world is changing, logic will never lead to rule breaking ideas. 

“A different approach is needed”

Innovation requires creativity. Anything new, by definition, is untried and therefore unsafe. To achieve originality, we need to abandon the comforts of habit, reason and strike out in new directions enable creativity to be your competitive advantage.

If you have forgotten everything I have said, I want you to take this away with you. Be curious about people, take an experimental approach, share processes and encourage the collective ownership, which empowers teams to learn from one another. In other words, take a human-centered approach, through:

  • Insights: learn about the lives of others

  • Observations

  • Empathy: to stand in the shoes of the customer, see the world through their lens
